I love to cook, and all that goes with it (um, except the clean up). I love to grocery shop, unpack my box of amazing, fresh produce from Abundant Harvest Organics*; peruse Farmers’ Markets, and eat! I love the smell of garlic that has just hit the hot skillet… I love food.
Cooking is my Art. The sound of a knife slicing through fresh vegetables, the smell of garlic hitting a hot pan, the look of French Bread just out of the oven – crusty, golden, steaming… I love the art of cooking. The presentation on a plate takes thought. The ingredients in a dish need to compliment each other (in flavor and appearance). Even the planning of a menu is like a perfectly arranged symphony of tastes and textures. It’s my art, my passion, what I love to do.
Recently, I started filming a small cooking show, A Cooking Show with Rachel O. The episodes are on my blog and on YouTube. The filming, directing, editing, cleaning and cooking is all up to me. It has brought a new respect for television crews and all that they do! It has been a fun adventure, where I invite you into my kitchen to see how I prepare a dish or two, and usually features ingredients from my weekly Abundant Harvest Organics box.
I find joy in gathering recipes and planning menus. I’ve been doing this for us for years, and have recently discovered that this is a gift I can give to others. I love to help people who are overwhelmed with the task of what to make for dinner.
I’ve also recently discovered gardening, and love to cook with fresh ingredients grown just outside my door. This is a different task in an apartment. I’m learning as I go.
Another facet of who I am as an artist is my love of photography. Growing up, my dad was always taking amazing photos. I wanted a camera like his, so I could take pictures like he did. My first camera was a pink point and shoot, but eventually after waiting for years, I got an SLR and started my own journey of becoming a photographer. Some of my favorites are photos of people when they don’t know there’s a camera there – not posed, not uncomfortable, just who they are. There’s so much raw beauty to be captured in life.
Just a little glimpse into life through my eyes.
*Please note: I work as an Independent Contractor with Abundant Harvest Organics. I believe in them, and whether or not I was being compensated monetarily or with produce, I would endorse them and what they do. I work with them and post about them because I love their produce and the organization and want as many people as possible to know about them and use their produce with ease.
